At the core of our project will be the new Visitor Centre building in the Allt Cefn Foel car park. The exciting thing about this build is that it will be constructed almost completely from timber sourced from Long Wood itself, a first of its kind in Ceredigion. The frame will be roundwood larch and the hand hewn joints will be oak pegged. The walls will be of straw bale build, covered with clay plaster, giving the building a high insulation rating.
Welcoming, attractive and a focus for visitors to Long Wood the additional seating, lighting and provision of compost toilets will improve facilities, especially for those with small children.
The building will incorporate vital office space for current and future employees providing a work base. Staff will be able to welcome and interact with users of the woodland and will be able to identify potential problems, acting swiftly to overcome them. Visitor experiences will be improved and this should help to attract many more people to our beautiful woodland.
The Visitor Centre will be available for hire for activities including meetings, courses, birthday parties and exhibitions. It will also be the base for the regular Warden led volunteer sessions; Woodland Wednesdays.
