Get Involved

Membership

Long Wood is a community woodland managed through the directorship. However, as a community woodland, the community is invited to get involved at all levels.

Becoming a member of Long wood not only shows support for the project but also gives members of the community the chance to vote at Annual General Meetings and at other scheduled meetings.

If you would like to become a member of Long Wood Community Woodland then you will need to join our mailing list. Directors will then ratify membership requests at the next public meeting.

Volunteering

Long Wood is able to thrive because of our wonderful team of volunteers. These amazing people put aside a day of their time each week, whatever the weather, to help with various tasks in the woods, and what a lot of varied tasks they do-

Woodland management like Coppicing and other things like path maintenance, path creation, fencing, building and making various things like nest boxes for different creatures or even birdhides. The volunteers share their areas of expertise with us whilst learning skills  too.

Please contact us if you would like to know more about volunteering at Long Wood.

Forest School

Long Wood Offers opportunities for volunteers to get practical hands on experience in woodland management. Our trained wardens hold volunteer sessions every Wednesday throughout the year which are open for all to attend. The only things you need bring are suitable footwear and clothing and food and drinks for yourself.

The activities vary from week to week depending on management requirements within the woodland but to date have included coppicing, firewood stacking, landscaping as well as activities more specific to the build of the round wood framed visitors’ centre including shingle making. You can find out more about planned activities by contacting us, otherwise please feel free to just turn up on the morning. If you consider yourself to have a disability that you feel may cause access issues within the woodland please contact us in advance so that we can help you to plan your volunteer experience in advance.
